BRIEF HISTORY OF YEMA WATCHES

Yema is a watchmaking company in Besancon, France. They claim that their watches "stand out from the rest by virtue of their specific design and technological characteristics".

Founded in 1948 in Besançon (Doubs) by Henry Louis Belmont, the company distinguished itself in the very beginning by creating the first automatic chronometers manufactured entirely in France, and became famous for the technical qualities and sports characteristics of its watches.

Having been owned by Seiko Watch Corporation of Japan since 1988, the company recently returned to French hands via a buyout by Louis Eric Beckersteiner. As a result, a transition is occurring as of September, 2005. The new Chairman has set a target for watch sales of 50,000 in 2005 and 100,000 pieces with a turnover of 10 million euros in 2008.

A disruptive innovation: The Calibre S:

The TAG Heuer Calibre S is a mechanical movement with the sophistication and complexity of quartz precision. The electro mechanical "true hybrid" timepiece combines the precision of quartz technology with an ingenious mix of mechanical watchmaking expertise. With no fewer than 250 mechanical components and five bi-directional micro-engine, the Calibre S is the first new generation of analog timepieces to be developed for several centuries.

TAG Hauer is known for its sophisticated technology and design. For the Calibre S the technology was greatly inspired by sports car instruments. Just like the sports car dashboard it uses a similar 160° dials and bidirectional micro-motors.

 HISTORY OF TAG HEUER

The TAG Heuer company has its roots in 1860 when Edouard Heuer founded Uhrenmanufaktur Heuer AG in St-Imier, Switzerland, patenting his first chronograph in 1882. In 1887 Heuer patented an 'oscillating pinion' still used by major watchmakers for mechanical chronographs.

Formation

TAG Heuer was formed in 1985 when TAG (Techniques d'Avant Garde), manufacturers of high-tech items such as ceramic turbochargers for Formula One cars, acquired Heuer.

On 13 September 1999 TAG Heuer accepted a bid from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton S.A. of SwFr1.15 billion (£452.15 million) (US$739 million) contingent upon a transfer of 50.1% of stocks.
